200-year-old manufacturing company opens new site at Moncks Corner

MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) — Local and state officials will celebrate the grand opening of the new Cooper River site of a nearly 200-year-old manufacturing company on Thursday.

Gov. Henry McMaster, Berkeley County officials and others get a first look at the new site.

Dupont is expanding their business and at the new Cooper River site they will produce Liveo, a pharmaceutical grade tube.

Bill Alexander with Dupont says with the COVID-19 pandemic they have been able to support health care in some way and are looking to move that forward.

This project has been underway for about a year and a half, making it one of the biggest investments the site has seen in recent years.

Although they don’t have South Carolina-based clients, Alexander says they’re still looking to expand.

“We are founded on four core values. The first is safety and health, the second is protecting the planet, the third is respect for people and the four highest ethical behaviors,” says Alexander.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA recorded a record 377 injury-free days for the entire Dupont site for employees, contractors and visitors combined prior to grand opening.

Dupont officials say they continue to grow and will need to expand their team. They are currently looking to hire 25 full-time employees for phase one and another 25 for phase two.
