A Moment with the Mayor: Return of Rogers Hometown Hockey

Rogers Hometown Hockey returns to Lloydminster March 19-21.

We had the pleasure of hosting this free event in 2017, which was an opportunity for many to gather in downtown Lloydminster and see the streets transformed to help celebrate the game of Canadian hockey. We had the pleasure of meeting former NHLers, introducing our NHL alumni and our current NHL players. Stories were shared on the airwaves about the rich history of hockey and hockey heroes in our city and surrounding areas.

Fast forward to today. We’re excited to see things open up and we’re thrilled to have been chosen as the first stop for Rogers Hometown Hockey’s return in 2022. The tour begins here and will make other stops across Western Canada. Be sure to check the online calendar.

This event would not be possible without the support of sponsors. This year, Rogers Hometown Hockey is presented by Hyundai and Desjardins, and an event like this requires a huge team and group of volunteers. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with Brand Ambassadors and the Rogers Hometown Hockey Road Crew to make this event a success and kick off Lloydminster’s 2022 event slate.

This year’s free event takes place on the grounds of the Servus Sports Center. Participants will have the opportunity to discover the unique hockey experience of their hometown. Bring your phone to the event as many interactive games take place outside or use a digital platform to reduce physical contact. Tickets are available at www.hometownhockey.com and you can sign up, your family or your group. Every day, time slots are available to control the numbers. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Monday’s event kicks off at 4 p.m. with an evening outdoor viewing of an NHL broadcast between two of the original six teams: the Montreal Canadiens vs. the Boston Bruins. Ron MacLean and Tara Slone will host live onsite from the Sportsnet mobile studio at the Servus Sports Centre. Don’t forget to register online to attend one of the festival events.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Mayor Gerald S. Aalbers
City of Lloydminster
