As milling season and the State of Origin series kick off this month, Ergon Energy reminds sugar cane growers and harvester operators to think about their game plan for working near overhead power lines.

With a host of family, friends and co-workers driving heavy vehicles, machinery and aircraft on farms and around the power grid, Burdekin-based Area Manager Matt Oar is passionate about farm safety and electric.

He urges everyone to strengthen their defense this season using Ergon Search and Live app before they enter the field at high-risk work sites.

“The best teams have a clear defense and attack strategy long before they chase and maintain laser focus throughout the game,” Mr Oar said.

“Similarly, when driving vehicles or machinery around power lines, you must plan the work, control the hazards, set your defenses, and look up and live while the work is in progress.

“With our free Search and Live app, you can check the location and heights of utility poles and wires anywhere you plan to work and get safety tips tailored to your site.”

For your safety and that of your teammates on site, look up and live. When everyone returns home safely at the end of the day, we are all winners.

After 432 accidental contacts with power lines in Queensland last year, Ergon Energy continues to work with high-risk industries to prevent incidents through planning, risk mitigation and situational awareness.

“We understand that no one comes to work intending to touch a power line, but we see far too many incidents and contact with live power lines can kill or cause devastating injury,” said Mr. Oar.

“Last year, our crews across the state responded to incidents involving trucks, tractors, harvesters, haulers, excavators, spray rigs, augers and earthmoving equipment. irrigation.

“For your safety and the safety of your teammates on site, look up and live. When everyone gets home safely at the end of the day, we’re all winners.”
