New Hotline Number Activated for Thanksgiving Community Dinner in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A new phone number has been activated for the 54th Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner.

Organizers said the new number for the meal hotline will be 785-422-8280.

The line will be open from Friday, November 5 at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 19.

This year’s dinner will only include home-delivered meals, organizers said.

For the second year in a row, the meal will not be served in the Agriculture Hall on the grounds of the Stormont Vail Events Center, as has been the case in the past, due to concerns related to COVID-19.

Instead, volunteers will deliver meals on Thursday, November 25 – Thanksgiving Day – to those who request them in advance.

Callers to reserve meals must provide their name, address, postal code and phone number, as well as the number of meals required.

There is a limit of one meal per person and four meals per household.

Residents of one of Topeka’s high-rise buildings who typically have daily meals delivered are urged to check with their property manager before calling.

Braun said organizers plan to deliver around 4,000 meals this year.

Volunteers are needed from Monday November 22 to Thursday November 25.

Those interested in volunteering can register online at or by calling (785) 354-1744. The volunteer hotline will be open from November 1 until all places have been filled.

Additionally, non-perishable foods can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. November 22-24 at Agriculture Hall, located near SW 17th and Tyler streets.

Items needed include canned green beans; canned sweet potatoes; box dressing; instant canned potatoes; canned jelly cranberry sauce; canned milk; canned chicken broth; White sugar; and brown sugar.

Cash donations are also needed to offset the cost of perishables. Cash donations are accepted at all CoreFirst Bank and Trust locations. Donations can also be mailed to the Community Thanksgiving Dinner Foundation, PO Box 432, Topeka, 66601.

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner Foundation is volunteer-based and is funded entirely by donations from the community.
